11/17/2018 0 Comments Double ChinsHi! Happy holiday season. It is really fun, and busy in our studio this year. So I noticed that the images in which I requested editing on a double chin, are not looking great. I put this tutorial together so you can see how I edit a double chin to make sure it looks natural. Please let me know if you have any questions. All the best to all of you! 9/12/2018 2 Comments And we are off!Hi! Sorry it has been so long since I have caught up with everyone. I have been busy shooting and taking my youngest off to college in New York and working behind the scenes on Blue Sky's Retouching. I hope you are all ready to FINALLY launch this amazing retouching business! Right now I have four photographers that have agreed to be a part of our final testing period. Initially I was only going to have two test the system, but I am concerned that they will not be busy enough, so we will not have enough retouching to make sure we are ready to launch.
In the meantime, I want to high recommend that each of you take advantage of the Phlearn Retouching 101 class that I invested in. Here is a link to download the classes: LInk: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/wsbvktet2m8cw5b/AACkIN_u8yTkHBoA5Zxb2Cwha?dl=0 I think that these classes are so valuable. They will teach you from beginning to end what to look for when retouching. Keep in mind, that you don't have to follow exactly how he retouches as it is very time consuming and will take too long, but the classes will help you learn to see like one of the world's best retouchers. I have been retouching for years, and I still learned a lot from taking these classes. Next week I will upload Retouching 201 and then the week after that, Retouching 301. Please feel free to comment or share what you have learned on the blog. Thank you again to everyone for staying committed while we worked out all the problems with the system and now we are ready to successfully launch this new business. Have a great rest of your week! 7/3/2018 0 Comments Retouching an orderHi! Sorry it has been a while since I have updated you on both the business and provided you with any tutorials. I am going into my busy season for my portrait studio, so it has been a little crazy around here. Last week, I thought I would just record myself retouching several images in an order. There really isn't any sound, I just wanted to show you my process once I begin retouching. I think as you work on an order, each image gets a little easier, because you are already familiar with the client's face and where they might have blemishes or what needs to be corrected. The key is to retouch the images without really having them look "retouched". The images should just look great. Hopefully you get something out of this and please give me feedback. This is just a straight screen recording so I hope you can follow along. 5/14/2018 6 Comments Another HeadshotPlease watch another video of retouching a headshot. This lady has uneven lips and a dark forehead. Please follow the same techniques to retouch the rest of the images! Thank you. 5/8/2018 5 Comments When is it too far?By now most of you have probably watched my video on how to retouched senior skin. I wanted to show you with actual images how easy it is to go too far with the retouching. The image that I retouched has a lot of the verticle lines taken off of her face, and most of the other lines lightened, by using the clone stamp, set to lighten at about 30% opacity. The image on the far left, has the retouching that I did to the image, but it also appears that the One Click Color action was also applied to the image. Unfortunately the results were not good. The image is too flat, too light and has too much contrast. If you overdue it, even just a little, you loose all the depth of the image.
I recommend that you take a look at the entire order of images and come up with a strategy to make sure that the entire of collection of images look great, and that they all have similar retouching results. When I, as the photographer, present them to my client, I show them as a printed collection. That means they see 20-25 images printed on the wall next to each other. If the retouching results are not consistent, it will be very obvious. Please take a little more time as you are learning a professional standard of retouching, so that as you get busier and busier, you will continue to maintain consistent results. Add comments below or questions so I can answer the entire group. Thanks and have a great day! 5/2/2018 4 Comments Senior RetouchingThanks so much to all of you for participating in the Skype call last week. While I did not understand most of the conversation, I appreciate all of the input and help to make Blue Sky's Retouching and our client experience the best it can possibly be. I know that some of you had to retouch an older adult. I just did a three generation family portrait that included the Grandma. She wanted to make sure she had some beautiful portraits of herself to give to her friends and family. But the question in my mind was, how much should we retouch her? I went ahead and retouched one of the images the way that I think it looks the best. I hope she agrees. Please watch the video and give me your input in the notes section. It is super important for all of you to be consistent in your work. Especially after working with a photographer for an extended period of time. Here is an example of an over retouched image of a guy. Here is a version of a darker image that still has texture in the skinThis image again is way too smooth for a guy. There is not texture in the skin. Please don't do this!I totally understand that each photographer you work with will have a little different style and it will take some time to perfect it. Thank you for your continued hard work. I am requesting that each of you put a comment in this blog post to show that you have looked at it.
